Four new McDonald’s restaurants are currently being built in Stratford’s Olympic park, the venue for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

One of these will be the biggest McDonald’s in the world, covering 30,000 square feet. The outlet will be ten times the size of the average McDonalds’s restaurant in the UK.

At present, the world’s largest McDonald’s is situated in Orlando, Florida.

The new Olympic park restaurant will seat up to 1,500 customers. The company, which is a long-standing sponsor of the Olympics, expects to sell 1.75 million meals during the Games. Around one in four visitors to the Olympic park are likely to purchase a McDonald’s meal. In 2008, the outlet in Beijing’s Olympic park sold 1.25 million meals.

Jill McDonald, Chief Executive at McDonald’s UK, said: “To be involved in the greatest sporting event on earth is hugely exciting and we are delighted to be able to celebrate one year to go by showcasing these plans.

“Visiting McDonald’s is fun and the design and graphics in these restaurants will take that to new heights. We want everyone who visits our Olympic Park restaurants to have the best possible customer experience and are confident that the look and feel of these cutting-edge designs will provide that environment.”
