Well, if you are not aware, there are some local businesses that celebrate Black Friday in a very ‘normal’ manner. It is a hard-to-believe fact when there are constant updates about retailers launching an array of Black Friday deals to make the most of it. Moreover, there are stories running all over about shoppers going crazy over Black Friday sales and discounts.

Ed Bouwsma, Sales Manager at Stucky Brothers said, “Our hours on Black Friday are normal, and we don't do anything, any specials, we will have a couple special products that we are getting rid of that we are marking down.”

According to Bouwsma, Black Friday sales are designed to get rid of out-dated items or cheaper models made just for the day after Thanksgiving sale. The electronic and appliance store on Coldwater Road prides itself on selling the most recent products and he feels like they beat out big chain stores when it comes to prices.
Local businesses definitely have certain advantages when compared to the large retail shops.

“We have the advantage of being a locally owned business that we can react to the competition faster. We find electronics is the competition reacting to us rather than us reacting to them,” adds Bouwsma.

Philip Gieseking, owner of the Phil's Hobby Shop on North Clinton Street, Indiana, said, “Go to your big box store and see if you can buy it cheaper, but you'll find out they don't carry it,” he said about some remote-controlled vehicles. “They don't sell it. They tend to see more toy-oriented things. The type of item you buy and throw away when it doesn't work. Pitch it and get and new one.”

Are the big daddies in the retail sector noticing these details?
