Media-Saturn is a consumer electronics production division of the German retailer Metro Group. Metro Group is on the expansion mode after denying any negative impacts of the Greek debt crisis on its retail business operations, and in order to capture and optimize opportunities in the growing markets of consumer goods, the group has opened up its first Media –Market store in Shanghai, China. The Metro Group has invested around 1.9 billion euros ($2.4 billion) to channelize this mega project.

Demand for the consumer goods is rising day by day, indicating that the retailers selling consumer goods should attend this demand and extend their respective operations to fulfill the same.Eckhard Cordes, A chief executive from Metro said, “After a period of reduced investment in 2009, we will step up out expansion speed significantly this year.”

Hence, Metro plans to dream and do big despite knowing the fact that there is fierce competition in the Chinese consumer goods market. Metro is likely to face bitter competition from China’ local rivals like Suning and GOAM; both are huge compared to what Metro is and have enlarged networks in the urban as well as rural areas of China.

Taking cues from the promising yet risky situation, Metro Group has developed growth strategies that include launching of 200 stores in China and 100 new outlets across the world.
