Kroger-owned convenience chain Turkey Hill Minit Markets is to add at least five more outlets in Central Indiana during 2011, a Spokesperson told The Indianapolis Business Journal. The expansion will support Kroger’s growth plans for the market, as coverage will be provided in areas that cannot support a full-size food store. The new c-stores will also be included in the Kroger fuel rewards programme.
Turkey Hill currently operates around 250 stores, and only opened its first store outside Pennsylvania in Martinsville, Indiana in 2008. A second store in the region was opened in October this year.
Kroger donates Bikes
Kroger employees at the Northeast Indiana stores have donated 208 bikes, as well as tricycles, big wheels and scooters, to the U.S. Marine Corps’ “Toys for Tots” campaign, mentioned Wane.com. Associates at the 19 area stores raised money for the bikes through dress down days, raffles, bake sales, and personal donations.
“During this holiday season, there are more families in need than we have seen for a very long time,” said Kroger President Bob Moeder. “They (our associates) demonstrate sincere heartfelt generosity for one cause after another.”
Kroger also donated $20,991 to “Toys for Tots” in November with proceeds from a coin box campaign in all their stores. $7,967 of that came from the 19 area stores.
