Hit Entertainment has teamed up with the Royal Mail to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Thomas the Tank Engine creator, Reverend W Awdry.

Created 70 years ago, Thomas the Tank Engine is one of the world’s best loved and iconic children’s characters.

The Royal Mail has issued a set of ten Thomas & Friends stamps featuring Thomas and other engines to mark the celebration.

The collection, which consists of six long-format stamps, will launch tomorrow.

"In this age of bullet trains and high speed travel it’s great to see that children around the world are still enchanted by a little blue tank engine and his friends,” said Royal Mail spokesperson, Philip Parker. 

"We hope this stamp issue will bring happy memories to all those people young and old who have enjoyed the Reverend’s wonderful stories."

 “With over two thousand subjects suggested each year it is a huge coup and an absolute honour that the Royal Mail has chosen to help celebrate the centenary of the birth of the Rev W. Awdry by producing this colourful range of Thomas & Friends stamps,” added Rick Glankler, global brand management Thomas - & Thomas division of EMEA.  

“We could not think of a more fitting way to mark this special anniversary," he added.
