Kate Middleton - A Royal style icon

Middleton mania sweeps the world as fashionistas rush to get the latest replicas of clothing worn by the Duchess of Cambridge
Kate Middleton - a fashion icon?

From that engagement dress down to the perfume she wore on her wedding day, Kate Middleton is continuously setting trends in the fashion world. The newly-wed Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton has even been hailed as a bigger fashion icon than Lady Gaga and Cheryl Cole by women across the UK.

Retail Digital looks at how Kate Middleton mania is sweeping the high-street as fashionistas everywhere race to get the latest fashions fit for a princess.

Issa engagement dress

Within 24 hours of Kate Middleton’s engagement announcement, the famous blue silk jersey Issa dress she wore for the occasion had sold out at stores across London. Replicas of that dress hit stores soon after and sold-out in record time. British retailer Tesco’s short-sleeved cotton F&F frock was modeled after Middleton’s dress. It became an instant hit with customers with demand outstripping stock. Soaring replica dress sales were an early indicator of the popularity of Kate Middleton and her style.

Whistles engagement blouse

Despite being a part of the Royal family, Kate Middleton is a massive fan of high-street retailers like Jigsaw and Topshop. High-street retailers like Zara and Warehouse have reported a surge in sales after Kate Middleton has been spotted in their clothes. Whistles, which is a British store known for vintage-inspired silk blouses, is one of the princesses favourites. The ivory blouse she wore in her official engagement photograph was re-issued at Whistles and dubbed the Kate blouse. Kate originally purchased the blouse in 2008 for $155. The re-issued version set fashionistas back $205 but proved to be hugely popular.

Kate replica wedding dresses

Last week, Kate Middleton finally walked down the aisle with her Prince charming in the biggest and most lavish wedding of the century. The Sarah Burton and Alexander McQueen that Kate wore for her big day has predictably inspired a surge of copycat designs. One replica dress, which has been created by Michelle and Henry Roth, is to be sold at Klenfeld Bridal Salon, the largest wedding boutique in the US. New York fashion house 'Faviana' is also attempting to cash in on Kate’s dress, with its 'Princess Kate' gown.

White Gardenia Petals by Illuminium

Kate Middleton chose White Gardenia Petals by Illuinium, a little known perfume, for her big day. The fragrance, which was created by Michael Boadi, is a mix of coconut, muguet or lily of the valley, ylang ylang, amber wood and jasmine. It retails at $140...that is if you are lucky enough to get your hands on a bottle. The perfume has sold out worldwide after it was revealed as the scent the Duchess of Cambridge wore for her wedding day. Middleton mania strikes again.
