A rare film featuring Charlie Chaplin, one of the great pioneers of the early movie industry, is expected to fetch up to £100,000 when it is put up for auction at the end of the month.

The 35mm film was bought by Morace Park for just £3.20 in 2009 after it was advertised on popular online auction site eBay.

The silent film called Charlie Chaplin in Zepped is believed to have been made as a morale-boosting propaganda film for British troops.

It features seven minutes of rare footage, which shows Chaplin bringing down a German Zeppelin airship as it flies over the skies of London.

The film, which had been classified by the British Board of Film Classification in 1917, features some of the earliest known animation including special effects.

The making of the film has been the subject of controversy since the film surfaced with many believing it had been an experiment in early movie making. Others think it may have been made without the knowledge of Chaplin himself.

Charlie Chaplin in Zepped will be auctioned by famous auction house Bonhams in London on June 29.
