Entertainment One has teamed up with Fisher Price to develop a Peppa Pig toy line in the US.

The pre-school animated TV show Peppa Pig, which follows the trials and tribulations of girl pig Peppa and her younger brother George, has been a phenomenal success in the UK.

Now Peppa Pig has cracked the US market. It began appearing on Nick Jr. in the US earlier this year and already ranks in the channel’s top 10 shows, attracting more than 500,000 viewers between the ages of two and five.

Americans didn't stop splurging after the holidays

Peppa Pig toys, which were first launched in the UK in 2005, generated more than £200m in sales last year.

Entertainment One’s deal with Fisher Price has the potential to bring in $1bn a year in the US.

"Fisher-Price is very pleased to partner with eOne to bring a character of this quality to the US market. Peppa Pig is such a warm, endearing and relatable personality, and the stories offer a wholesome message that families really appreciate,” said Susie Lecker, SVP for Fisher-Price Friends.

"We know how children love to play out the adventures they see on TV - as well as dream up their own - so we're really excited to be developing a line of Peppa Pig toys," she added.

Peppa Pig merchandise will be available in the US in time for the key Christmas retail market next year.
