Nintendo launched its highly anticipated handheld 3DS console last month at a recommended retail price of £230.

The console has received a torrent of bad publicity recently over claims that its 3D screen has been causing sickness, dizziness and headaches in gamers.

Analysts anticipated sales of around 140,000 3DS consoles in the UK during its launch weekend. However, the 3DS fell short of its pre-launch expectations, selling just 113,000 units.

Now a number of high-street retailers in the UK have dropped the price of the Nintendo 3DS by £50 to £179.

Game, HMV and Amazon will all be selling the Nintendo 3DS at a reduced rate in a bid to prompt sales over Easter and the upcoming Royal Wedding and Bank Holidays.

The small selection of games and high price combined with the frequent health scares that the 3DS has been linked to have all contributed to slow sales.

The 3DS launched with a handful of games including popular titles like Pro Evolution Soccer 3D, Tom Clancy’s: Ghost Recon, Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition and The Sims 3D.

More titles have been confirmed including Assassins Creed Lost Legacy 3D, FIFA 3D and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D.
