L’Oreal adverts featuring Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington have been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

Eat Love Pray actress Julia Roberts appeared in a two-page advert to promote a foundation called Teint Miracle under L'Oreal's Lancome brand.

Supermodel Christy Turlington featured in a Maybelline campaign for an anti-ageing foundation called The Eraser.

The adverts were banned following a complaint from a MP Jo Swinson.

Liberal Democrat Jo Swinson claimed the images used by L’Oreal were misleading and were not a true representation of the results the products could achieve because they had been digitally manipulated.

ASA agreed that the Lancome and Maybelline campaigns breached the advertising standards code for misleading and exaggeration.

L’Oreal admitted to using post production techniques to polish the adverts. However, the beauty firm believes that the images give an accurate and realistic portrayal of the results the products could achieve.
