According to Tesco Mobile, a joint venture division with O2, its customers will be able to purchase the iconic Apple iPhone in store this Christmas; a move that could trigger a price war amongst mobile operators

Following the end of O2’s two-year exclusive deal this November, the news will undoubtedly dismay Orange and Vodafone, who recently won rights to sell the iPhone under similar tariffs to O2.
“We are hoping to bring out something that is a little bit different to what is already out there in the market, and would like to bring some Tesco value to the iPhone,” the company said, hinting at competitive pricing.
Although a launch date has not been confirmed and details are yet to be finalised, the supermarket giant will sell the 3G and 3GS iPhone on both contract and pay-as-you-go through its larger stores and online on Tesco Direct.
A spokeswoman for Tesco Mobile said: “It is a coup for us. Our absolute aim is to get this into stores and online before Christmas.”
